Description:
Autumn Forest evokes an imagined woodland on the side of a hill, alive with warm autumnal tones — orange, burnt amber, burnt sienna, olive greens and mellow yellows. Painted in acrylics by Michael Sutherland on a substantial 100 x 70 cm gallery canvas, the work is presented in a handmade beach float frame finished with two coats of varnish. The varnish layers protect colour and surface texture while preserving the artist’s expressive brushwork and tonal depth.

The composition has echoes of Michael’s townscape series in the way layers are built up, rising higher and higher to create an enhanced sense of perspective and depth.
